9. Faux Terrazzo Coasters and Trays

Modern decor is all about the details. Small accent pieces, like coasters and vanity trays, are excellent opportunities to introduce color and pattern into your apartment without overwhelming the space. Terrazzo, with its playful speckled appearance, is a major trend in modern interior design, and you can easily recreate this look using polymer clay.
To make your own faux terrazzo items, select a neutral base color of polymer clay, such as white, cream, or light gray. Roll it out flat using a rolling pin to your desired thickness. Take small scraps of colored clay—such as terracotta, sage, mustard, and black—and chop them into tiny, irregular fragments. Scatter these colorful flecks over your rolled-out base clay, then gently roll over them again to press them flat into the surface. Use cookie cutters or a utility knife to cut out geometric shapes like circles or hexagons. Bake the clay in your oven according to the package instructions. Once cooled, sand the surfaces smooth and seal them with a water-resistant varnish for a glossy, high-end finish.
