6. Curly Hair Mocha Balayage
Curls and balayage were made for each other — every highlight lands on a different curl, creating depth you can’t get with straight hair. Mocha tones woven through dark curls look like autumn light caught in your hair.
For curly hair, colorists paint each curl individually (a technique called “pintura”) so the highlights fall exactly where the curls catch the light.
What You’ll Need
- A curl-specialist colorist if possible
- Deep conditioning treatments before and after
- A curl-defining cream for styling
How to Make
- Arrive with your curls styled as usual so the colorist sees the pattern.
- Ask for painted highlights on the outer surface of curls.
- Keep highlights warm and golden-brown to avoid brassiness.
- Moisturize generously — lightened curls thirst for hydration.
