7. Dimensional Paper Garland

7
Garlands are not just for festive holidays; a sophisticated, well-designed paper garland can serve as permanent, playful decor for a blank wall, mantle, or nursery. By using a sewing machine to connect individual paper cutouts, you can create a continuous, flowing strand of dimensional shapes that spin and dance in the gentlest breeze.

Select a cohesive color palette of heavy cardstock, such as soft pastels, moody jewel tones, or metallic neutrals. Use a craft punch or a cutting machine to cut out dozens of identical shapes, such as circles, stars, or delicate butterflies. To give the garland its signature three-dimensional look, stack two or three identical paper shapes on top of one another. Run the stacked shapes directly through a sewing machine using a straight stitch, leaving a few inches of loose thread between each stack to link them together. Once finished, gently fold the outer layers of each shape outward to create a beautiful, multi-dimensional effect that catches the light from every angle.
