6. Fabric Cover Upcycled Accent Pillows

6

Decorative throw pillows are essential for making a sofa or bed look cozy and styled, but buying new ones every season gets expensive. Instead of purchasing brand-new pillows, you can easily refresh your existing ones, or cheap utility inserts, by creating simple envelope-style pillow covers. This project is highly customizable and can even be completed without a sewing machine using fusible iron-on hem tape.

Look for affordable fabrics such as linen remnants, cotton tea towels, or even a patterned flat sheet from a clearance aisle. Cut the fabric so that it wraps around your pillow insert with a generous overlap at the back, which eliminates the need for complex zippers or buttons. Secure the side seams with a quick stitch or iron-on adhesive. This DIY allows you to swap out your pillow covers easily for cleaning or to update your color scheme as the seasons change.
