Terrazzo, with its playful speckled patterns of marble, quartz, and glass chips, is a major trend in contemporary home decor. You can easily replicate this high-end look at home using polymer clay or eco-resin. Making your own terrazzo-style coasters is a fantastic weekend project that allows you to experiment with custom color palettes to match your living room or dining room decor.
If you choose to use polymer clay, you will need a few blocks of clay in your primary base color (such as white, cream, or light grey) and small scraps of contrasting colors for the terrazzo chips. Roll out the contrasting clay colors into paper-thin sheets, bake them for a few minutes to harden slightly, and then crumble or cut them into tiny, irregular fragments. Next, roll out your base clay into a flat sheet about a quarter-inch thick. Scatter your colorful clay fragments over the surface of the base clay, then use a rolling pin to gently press the chips flat into the base, creating a seamless, speckled sheet.
