8. Hand-Woven Chunky Knit Blankets

8
There is nothing cozier than wrapping yourself in a thick, heavy blanket, and making one yourself is surprisingly easy. Hand weaving, also known as arm knitting, bypasses traditional knitting needles entirely, using your hands and arms to loop super-chunky chenille or merino wool roving yarn into a plush, oversized throw blanket in just a few hours.

To make a standard throw blanket, you will need approximately four to six skeins of jumbo chenille yarn. Working on a large, flat surface like a clean floor or a large dining table is highly recommended. Start by creating a slipknot and making a foundation chain of about 25 to 30 loose loops, which will dictate the width of your blanket. Next, work your way back along the chain, pulling the working yarn up through each loop to create a new row of open loops. Keep your loops uniform in size—about the width of three fingers—to ensure your blanket has a neat, cohesive pattern. Continue this process, weaving back and forth, row by row, until your blanket reaches your desired length. To bind off the final edge, simply pass the first loop over the second, then pull the working yarn through, repeating this process down the line to lock the stitches in place. Tuck the loose tail of yarn securely into the stitches to finish your cozy masterpiece.
