4. Bed Risers and Under-Bed Rolling Bins

The space under a bed is often a dark, dusty void. With bed risers and rolling bins, it becomes one of the most useful storage zones in an apartment. This project is ideal for seasonal clothing, extra bedding, shoes, and off-season gear.
Materials: bed risers, rolling under-bed bins, labels, optional cedar blocks or silica packets.
Instructions: Lift the bed safely with a helper. Place one riser under each leg or caster. Make sure the bed is stable before lowering it. Fill rolling bins with items you do not need daily. Label the side facing outward so you can find things without pulling every bin out. Slide the bins under the bed, leaving space around the edges for airflow.
Time: 20–40 minutes. Difficulty: Beginner.
Customize by using soft-sided bins for clothes and hard plastic bins for shoes or tools. If your bed is already high, skip the risers and use low-profile bins instead. A budget alternative is to use clean cardboard boxes reinforced with packing tape, though they may not slide as smoothly.
Helpful tip: Store only clean, dry items under the bed. Moisture and dust can damage fabrics. Add a cedar block or silica packet to reduce musty odors. Avoid storing food, pet treats, or anything that might attract pests.
