6. DIY Wine Cork Trivet

6
Protect your dining table or countertop with a heat-resistant wine cork trivet. This project is as functional as it is stylish, and it’s a great way to use up a large number of corks at once. The natural insulating properties of cork make it ideal for this purpose.

Materials: Wine corks, a square or rectangular wooden base (or a piece of plywood), hot glue gun, and a saw (optional for cutting the base).

Instructions: Measure and cut your wooden base to the desired size (a 12×12-inch trivet is standard). Arrange the corks on the base in a tight, even pattern—you can lay them horizontally, vertically, or in a herringbone design. Once you’re happy with the layout, glue each cork down securely. For extra durability, seal the trivet with a clear, heat-resistant varnish.

Time: 2–3 hours

Difficulty: Beginner

Customization: Stain the wooden base to match your kitchen decor. For a pop of color, paint the tips of the corks in a single hue or a rainbow pattern.

Display Suggestion: Place it in the center of your dining table or next to the stove for easy access.
