6. Cornstalk Bundles on the Columns

Dried cornstalk bundles tied with burlap ribbon to white porch columns with pumpkins and mums at the base

Cornstalks are the unsung hero of fall porches: cheap, tall, and instantly harvest-y. Tying bundles to your porch columns frames the whole entryway and adds the vertical drama that low pumpkins alone can’t achieve.

Wrap each bundle with burlap ribbon or twine for a finished look, then pile pumpkins and mums at the base of each column.

What You’ll Need

  • 2-4 dried cornstalk bundles
  • Burlap ribbon or natural twine
  • 4-6 pumpkins of mixed sizes
  • 2 small potted mums

How to Make

  1. Stand one bundle against each porch column.
  2. Secure with twine or ribbon wrapped around column and stalks.
  3. Arrange pumpkins in a cluster at each base.
  4. Tuck mums in behind the pumpkins to fill gaps.
