9. Hay Bales with Pumpkins and Mums

Hay bales bring instant country charm to a fall porch, and they double as a display shelf for everything else. Stack one or two beside the steps, top them with pumpkins, and you’ve got a scene that looks straight out of a harvest festival.

Cover the top of the bale with a small piece of burlap before arranging your pumpkins — it keeps things tidy and adds texture. A few mums at the base tie the arrangement to the rest of your porch.

What You’ll Need

  • 1-2 small hay bales
  • 1 small burlap cloth
  • 4-6 pumpkins and gourds
  • 2 potted mums

How to Make

  1. Place the hay bales beside the steps or at the lawn’s edge.
  2. Drape burlap over the top of each bale.
  3. Arrange pumpkins on top, largest in the center.
  4. Set mums on the ground at the base of the bales.
