8. Oversized Fabric Tapestry with Wooden Dowels

Blank walls can make a bedroom feel cold and empty, but hanging a large framed piece of art can be incredibly expensive. An oversized fabric tapestry is an affordable, high-impact alternative that fills a large wall space while introducing soft textures and beautiful patterns. This project is highly customizable, allowing you to use patterned textiles, linen drop cloths, or hand-painted fabrics.
Select a beautiful fabric that complements your bedroom color palette—linen, cotton canvas, or mudcloth work exceptionally well. If you want a custom design, you can use fabric paint or dye to create abstract shapes or a modern color-blocked pattern on a plain neutral fabric. Hem the sides of the fabric to prevent fraying, and sew a simple pocket along the top and bottom edges. Slide a round wooden dowel through each pocket. Tie a piece of leather cord or thick cotton twine to the ends of the top dowel to hang the tapestry. The bottom dowel acts as a weight, keeping the fabric taut, elegant, and perfectly suspended.
