9. Dimensional Paper Quilling Geometric Art

9
Paper quilling is the art of rolling, shaping, and gluing thin strips of paper together to create intricate, three-dimensional designs. While traditional quilling can be highly detailed, applying this technique to large-scale geometric patterns results in a stunning, modern piece of wall art that plays beautifully with natural light throughout the day.

To create a modern quilled piece, use heavy-weight cardstock cut into uniform strips about half an inch wide. Choose a monochromatic color scheme or a soft gradient of pastel tones. On a thick piece of mat board, lightly sketch a geometric pattern, such as interlocking triangles, concentric circles, or a clean grid. Bend and fold the paper strips along your sketched lines, applying a thin line of clear-drying craft glue to the bottom edge of each strip before pressing it onto the board. The paper strips will stand on edge, creating raised, architectural lines that cast delicate shadows across the artwork as the sun moves across your bedroom.
