3. Felt Pumpkin Garland

A felt garland is a cozy, reusable way to bring fall vibes into any room. Kids can practice cutting and sewing (or gluing) while creating a festive decoration that can be hung year after year. This is also a great project for siblings to collaborate on, with older kids handling the cutting and younger ones adding the finishing touches.
Materials: Orange, green, and brown felt, fabric scissors, needle and thread or fabric glue, string or twine, pencil, pumpkin template (or freehand).
Instructions: Draw or print a simple pumpkin shape (about 3–4 inches tall) and cut it out as a template. Trace the template onto orange felt and cut out multiple pumpkins—aim for 8–10 for a short garland. Cut small green stems and brown vines from the other felt colors. Let the kids glue or sew the stems and vines onto the pumpkins. Once dry, attach the pumpkins to a length of twine with glue or by sewing a small loop at the top of each one. Hang the garland above a fireplace, on a porch, or in a child’s bedroom.
Time: 45–60 minutes | Difficulty: Medium (easier with glue) | Budget: Low
