4. Pumpkin Seed Mosaic Art

After carving or scooping out a pumpkin, don’t toss those seeds! Cleaned and dried, they become a fantastic material for mosaic art. This project is a wonderful way to teach kids about repurposing and texture while making a unique piece of fall art.
Materials: Pumpkin seeds (cleaned and dried), cardstock or cardboard, glue, orange and green paint (optional), paintbrush, pencil.
Instructions: If you want colored seeds, paint them orange and green and let them dry overnight. Draw a simple pumpkin outline on cardstock—this could be a whole pumpkin, a jack-o’-lantern, or even a pumpkin patch scene. Let the kids spread glue inside the lines and stick the seeds down, overlapping them slightly for a scaled effect. For the stem, use green seeds or a small piece of green paper. This craft looks especially striking when framed or displayed on a bulletin board.
Time: 30–45 minutes (plus drying time for paint/seeds) | Difficulty: Easy | Budget: Free (if using seeds from a pumpkin you’ve already carved)
💡 Pro Tip: To speed up drying, spread the seeds on a baking sheet and bake at 200°F (95°C) for about 10 minutes. Let them cool completely before using.
