7. Soy Candle Tins with Custom Labels

Candles are a classic for a reason, and small tins keep the cost and the burn time manageable. Making them yourself lets you choose a scent that matches the mood of your reception — cedar and vanilla for a lodge, fig and citrus for a summer evening.
Materials: soy wax flakes, cotton wicks with tabs, fragrance oil, small tins, a pouring pitcher, and a thermometer.
How to make them: Melt the wax in a double boiler to about 180°F, let it cool to roughly 135°F, then stir in fragrance oil at about one ounce per pound of wax. Secure the wick to the tin, pour, and let the candles cure for two days before handling. Trim wicks to a quarter inch before wrapping.
Time and difficulty: Two hours of active work plus curing time. Intermediate — temperature matters more than beginners expect.
Customization: Add a label with your names, date, and a scent name like “Reception Blend.” Test one candle at home first to check the scent throw before committing to a full batch.
