2. Egg Carton Bee Hive with Buzzing Bees

2
Why stop at one bee when you can create an entire hive? This project combines crafting with storytelling, as kids can make a hive and several bees to “live” inside it.

Materials: Cardboard egg carton (whole), brown paint, yellow and black paint, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, glue, scissors, white cardstock (for wings).

Instructions: Cut the egg carton lid off and paint the entire carton brown to resemble a hive. While it dries, create 3–5 bees using individual egg cups (following the Classic Bumblebee method). Once the hive is dry, let your child decorate it with hexagon shapes drawn in black marker to mimic honeycomb. Place the bees inside the hive or around it for a playful scene.

Time: 1 hour (plus drying time)

Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Encourage kids to use their hive as a stage for storytelling. They can pretend the bees are gathering nectar or flying to different flowers.
