6. Egg Carton Bee and Ladybug Friends

Why limit the fun to bees? This craft expands the egg carton menagerie to include ladybugs, giving kids a chance to explore different insects while using the same basic materials.
Materials: Cardboard egg carton, yellow, black, and red paint, googly eyes, black pipe cleaners, glue, scissors, white cardstock (for wings).
Instructions: Make 2–3 bees using the egg carton cups (yellow with black stripes). For the ladybugs, paint the cups red and add black spots. Glue on googly eyes and pipe cleaner antennae for both insects. Create wings for the bees from white cardstock and attach them to the sides. Let your child play with their new insect friends or create a story around them.
Time: 45 minutes (plus drying time)
Difficulty: Easy
This is a great opportunity to talk to kids about the differences between bees and ladybugs, such as their colors, habitats, and roles in nature.
